Aida Overton-Walker

Known as the “Queen of the Cakewalk”, Ms. Walker was a prominent

African American vaudevillian in the early 1900’s.

Performing as an actress, singer, dancer and choreographer,

her success was unparalleled and she broke the color barrier

at that time, being one of the only African American performers

working in white venues in New York.

Today we celebrate the life and achievements of

Aida Overton-Walker.
